Milestones For A New Millennium

Pathways to the Millennium Development Goals

We all see the problems afflicting the world.  They are the problems we each face ourselves in some small way each day, except for most of us reading this they are not  matters of life or death or threaten to relegate our lives and the lives of our children to the prison of poverty.  We see the abundance of this world, yet so many living without hope and wonder what path that we as individuals can take to bring about long lasting change to what are global and systemic problems.

The United Nation's Millennium Development Goals are such a path.  Originally defined through the cooperative agreement of 189 nations when they signed onto the Millennium Declaration, they are the policy implementation objectives of numerous global organizations specializing in a variety of policy concerns, the rallying cry of hundreds of advocacy, philanthropic, non-profit/non-governmental, change-agent organizations and they are for now over 173 million people coming together all over the world last year, a vision and a pathway for a better future for all people on this planet we share.

This wiki and my blog Milestones For A New Millennium Blog are my personal social media tools for connecting to others on the World Wide Web in countries across the globe.  The means to exploring how the Internet and Web 2.0 can be used to help one to become a global change-agent.  The basic objective is to support  efforts to see the fulfillment of the eight United Nations' Millennium Development Goals to 1. Reduce Suffering from Hunger2. Provide Universal Education,  3. Ensure Gender Equity,  4. Provide for Universal Child Health Care 5. Provide for Universal Maternal Health, 6. Combat HIV/AIDS and other diseases, 7. Ensure Environmental Sustainability and 8. Encourage Global Partnerships.

We see suffering in the world and as part of humanity naturally ask "Why?", but if we see ourselves as change-agents we can look to the future for what potentially could be and ask "What If?"
